HEADLINE: SkyWaves Research Projects Up to 48 Million Satellite Radio Subscribers by 2012
DATELINE: Jun. 16, 2003; ANN ARBOR, MI; MARKET WIRE
BODY: SkyWaves Research Report, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based research publication covering the satellite radio industry, projects that the two satellite radio broadcasters will share as many as 48 million subscribers by 2012.
The estimate, part of a ground-breaking assessment of subscriber growth probabilities through the next 10 years, was included Monday in the latest quarterly edition of the SkyWaves Research Report.
The study, which employs a proprietary forecast model, includes subscriber projections for each company, by quarter, through 2012 and under three possible growth scenarios. It found that even a conservative 'minimum growth' scenario gives the two satellite radio services 29.7 million subscribers by 2012.
The quarterly newsletter released Monday also includes SkyWaves Research's satellite radio subscriber estimates -- and analysis -- for the second quarter of 2003, which ends June 30. SkyWaves Research is predicting nearly 800,000 satellite radio subscribers by June 30 and at least 1.5 million by the end of this year.
