One thought, if Nortel's 4000 telcom patents fetch greater than one billion dollars, what does that say about IDCC's enterprise value with their 17,000 patents? Obviously patent worth is quite variable, but this article and others suggest IDCC's IP portfolio is among the most valuable not to mention past damages claims.
I suspect the fees would not be lower. As I understand it IDCC generally accepts 2% and under today. A pool would also take a lot of intrigue out of the IP business which should help IDCC's stock price. The real hurdle will be getting agreement among the IP suppliers on fees. All in all, I suspect a pool would help IDCC, other patent holders, and the phone suppliers.
