I was diagosed as having a metastatic glioma and having surgery next week. I am still an optimist and this sadly not a joke. I am hoping to be able to clearly compose my thougts. Will be seeing the best people. My surgeon is Dr. Black. Pray for me. Count one's blessings.
Love to all,
I am saddened to hear your news. The phrase that you wrote at the last of your post "Count one's blessings" has been running through my mind all day.
I thought that you might want to check out a treatment that has been around in clinical trials, has worked, and is approved in China, in phase 3 here (sounds familiar) and that maybe you could get into the trial here. Hopefully you won't need this treatment and surgery will take care of it.
"Peregrine is working in collaboration with New Approaches to Brain Tumor Therapy (NABTT), a brain cancer consortium funded by the National Cancer Institute, to conduct a clinical trial designed to further evaluate safety and efficacy of a single Cotara infusion in patients with first or second recurrence of glioblastoma multiforme, a particularly deadly form of brain cancer. Cotara has been granted orphan drug status for the treatment of two very different forms of brain cancers -- glioblastoma multiforme and anaplastic astrocytoma."
If you would like to speak with the doctor referenced in the Houston Chronicle article, please send me an e-mail with your contact information to
My wife works at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and could pass your name along to him if you are interested.
Take care of yourself. You will pull through this I am sure. Plus you have the best support group in the world behind you-the SciClone message board!! As crazy as we all are, I must admit over the years I have found the posters on this board for the most part to be thoughtful and caring. With our collective energy in your corner, I have no doubt you will win this fight!!
All the best-
With a strong network of positive people on this board, together with, even stronger (I'm sure) family and friends circle, you have an incredible strong support, Doc. You can do it! Same as your patients did, who listened to you and believed! I'll be waiting to hear from you soon...
