Yes, I have owned GGN for a few months now. Gabelli has overall good people working there. I also own GAB & GABUX. I wanted to own some kind of a gold fund that would be more stable not knowing exactly which way the gold prices were heading.I wanted to get a nice dividend no mater the direction. So far I let the fund reinvest into itself and add no more new money. I like to be more diversified. I also might try BUFTX or XLF for tech and financial diversification.
I've liked GGN for exposure to natural resources and gold plus the great divvy. Reduced when it hit 16 something in April but watching to get back in (bought a little back at 15.25). Hard to get comfortable with its typical premium to NAV .
I own GGN and have for 3-4 years collecting a nice .14 dist. every month -- since inception (2005) it has paid .14 every month. In the past year (since May 1 2011) the high was 16.80 and the low was 13.82. It holds gold and natural resources in the portfolio and to me that is a good balance and in the right places. Thanks for mentioning the other fund as IMHO Gabelli is the best! Good luck - I might buy some AWP today based on real estate hopefully rebounding.
