I really hate to interrupt the highly enlightening thread that seems to have been going on for about a month now but... How about some comments on RSH selling DISH. Did NRTC shoot themselves in the foot?
I doubt NRTC will be hurt by the RS refusal to accept their new dealer compensation package. The franchisees I've spoken with have all signed on with Pegasus as independents, Best Buy, Circuit City, BlockBuster, Sears, Western Auto, and Wal-Mart still sell into NRTC markets, as do many other independent retailers and numerous e-tailers. RS is the one which likely will be hurt. Its interesting to note that RS has just entered a marketing agreement with Dish, and will begin selling both systems by April. This could well presage RS withdrawing altogether from DirecTV, and does not bode particularly well for the RS/RCA "Partnership".
Not neccessarily. RSH came out in support of the merger. This may mean that they are positioning themselves to offer both styles until they are mergerd into one hardware configuration, if the merger goes through. If not, than they can at least point to the fact that they supported the concept, and if one goes out of business, can say that they were supporting the survivor. This may indicate a problem with the longterm viability of DirecTV and RSH may not want to be caught in the position of not having a satellite system to sell.
