This whole waiting and wondering situation reminds me of the Orpheus and Eurydice story from Greek legend. Do you know the one?
Orpheus and Eurydice are lovers and lead a blissful life until one day Eurydice is killed by vipers and taken to the underworld. Orpheus, set upon by grief, journeys to Hades and plays his lyre so beautifully that the god Hades is moved, for the first time ever, to allow a denizen of the underworld to return to the world of the living. He tells Orpheus to walk out of the underworld and that Eurydice will follow behind him, but that he must not turn around until he reaches the land of the living. Orpheus begins the long walk back, and at the very last moment before returning above ground, he is seized with doubt and the horrible suspicion that Hades has tricked him, and that his love is not behind him. He cannot hear her footsteps, and he cannot bear not knowing for sure whether she is there. So he turns, at the very last second, to look. Of course, she was there all along, walking silently, but because he violated the terms of the agreement, she fades from view and is instantly recalled to Hades, never to return, despite all of Orpheus' pleas and cries.
Do you see? We longs are beset with doubts and fears based on nothing--no news, no press releases, no data for good or ill. The misinformation being cast about is built on nothing but smoke and dust in the air. Keep on the path until we reach the light--then all will be revealed.
