    News from the front

I have two nephews currently serving in the Marine Corp in Iraq. The older one is on his 2nd tour there. Neither one of them is what I would call a political person - they're not particularly interested in politics (either party.) They both tell me that the overwelming majority of Iraqi people they come in contact with want them there. They do not want to go back to the old Saddam days, and they plan to vote in the upcoming elections. In addition, they also tell me that the Iraqi people they come in contact with do not like and do not support the so-called insurgency. They fear these people because most of them are either foreign terrorists, too young to know any better, or old Saddam henchmen and thugs.....not beloved revolutionaries. They offer no political or economic solutions for the Iraqi people. All they do is set off bombs and kill people. That is a strategy that is quaranteed to fail because it offers the Iraqi people nothing.

    • Your nephews are champs in my book. I commend and thank them for their service.

      Semper Fi!

    • Thank you for cluing me in. My husband keeps saying "we're there for the oil; no oil we wouldn't be there." I have seen TV news shows where they interviewed a few Iraqi businessmen, and they echoed the same sentiment: "The Americans would not be in Iraq except for the oil." I'm glad to see the majority of Iraqis want to be saved. We all know what a terrible person Saddam was and how he treated his own people (killing, and worse). I hope we can help to restore Iraq to the hands of the people and not a ruthless dictator like Saddam.
