IT staff informed at opcos yesterday (9/7/12) in conference call and letter from SYY's CEO and President that as of 1/1/2013 IT services will be outsourced to Infosys. Letter states some current staff may be hired, but some will not, and thanks for taking us this far. Most opco IT departments had been reduced 3-4 years ago to just two or three people, a network administrator/internal PC specialist, a Field Systems Administrator keeping sales laptops and customer direct order entry running, and if a third, a person handling everything from alarm systems, phone systems, cabling and all the computers used in the warehouse. Plan probably makes sense if opco is in an urban area, but several Sysco Opco's are rural, a long way away from Infosys offices. No word on the plan if Infosys will keep staff permanently in Sysco plants or not. One more step in the brain drain of Sysco that will leave it no different than their competitors. This has been a slow motion slide since about 2003 or 2004.
