Perhaps taxpayers should hold no say in exec. bonuses, but what about share holders ? With so many qualified professionals out of work, why would a company pay retention bonuses to those who have followed such poor business practices?
How about instead of giving bonuses, they (Citi) award stock options? - At, let's say a, $20 strike price. I am all for offering incentives to employees in an effort to retain talented people. But let us not forget management's main focus - "to increase shareholder value"
