Does anybody on this board understand the meaning of the word "future". Facebook usage from users and advertisers is going to explode this current quarter, due to the busy Holiday season......people posting tons of pics of their Holiday activities, and adverisers trying to squeeze every last dollar out of shoppers. Also, FB is about to roll a new feature called a "wanted" button...where you can type in whatever you are looking for. Think Ebay on steroids!!! 1 billion users will become 1 billion shoppers! This will undoubtedly draw people from Ebay, and once this thing gets rolling, it will be huge.
"1 billion users become 1 billion shoppers." I have been to third world poor countries (Philippines, India) who have little assets and they all huddle around one little computer in a tiny hut. I don't think you are going to get much of an interest from them in the shopping department. These people make up at least a quarter of the Facebook user base.
Upon what do you base your figure of users in 3rd world countries making up 25% of FB users......just because you have been to poor 3rd world countries???? I fail to see any logic in that at all. Let's just focus on developed countried here.....US, Europe, Asia, S. America.
Ummmm....where do you suppose all of FB's revenue comes from anyway?
pohba2000 , you write .....
" 1 billion users will become 1 billion shoppers! "
" Think Ebay on steroids!!! "
" This will undoubtedly draw people from Ebay, and once this thing gets rolling, it will be huge. "
You couldn't be more wrong .
What part about Facebook not having the resources to be an Ebay or Amazon or anything
[ other than what it is ] do you not understand ?
Facebook is what it is .... a social platform .... nothing more .
And , how long it retains its current standing with the public is anyones guess .
you people need to remember, this company is still growing/branching out. This social media stuff....that is just the tip of the iceberg...the foot-in-the-door...if you will. I rarely ever post on FB, but I click on to it's site a couple times a day. This company is going to branch out in so many $$$ making directions, average folks like us cannot even begin to comprehend it all. The new feature rolling out in Jan....the "wanted" button......will generate truck loads of cash in a short amount of time. Once people realize FB can hook them up with whatever they are looking for in record time, you will see people quickly stop wasting thei time on Ebay & craigs. Watch for FB to set up some sort of payment platform, similar to Paypal. Personally, I don't care if you agree with me or not. I like what I see here, and I have a time frame in mind to make "X" amount of $$$. If things are looking promising when these 2 areas converge, I will hold on for the ride. Momentum is your friend.
It's actually way way more than just a social platform. It's also an enormous database of users information. They are sitting on several ways to exploit this info. They will soon be able to compete with Doubleclick for third party ad placement $$$ using this info. In other words, they'll get a cut of ads placed on other web sites.
