With so many of these magazine/blogosphere awards going to X:C0M for 2012 it really makes me believe that sales are greater than average this time of year. And sales have been consistent, I say consistent because the reviews anywhere you look all have the game consistently rated with 90% or higher favorability. GOTY awards may be big silent sales drivers esp for a game not as well known as X:C0M. Amazon top 3 of GOTY 2012, Forbes GOTY 2012 and the list goes on. Should beat .50 average concensus handily. Hell, we might beat it by .35 or so
Yep. Spot on. X is selling alot better than what the fraud NPD data would like us to believe. Sure they were outta the paddock slow but I agree that sales may have actually picked up with all the positive reviews and game awards.
Another note on this game is that Strategy games have VERY LONG life cycles due to not much AAA competition anymore. CIV 5 still sells well a couple years later. I think we hit 2-2.5 million lifetime for Xcom which I would definitely think is on the upside of projections. Throw in DLC...which probably has a decent attach rate for this type of game and its going to do very well.
