The PS4 goes to 8GB DDR5 RAM from the PS3's 512MB of DDR3
That's 16 times more memory and DDR5 memory is almost twice as fast as DDR3.
This along with 8 core parallel processing means that graphics bottlenecks, pauses,
stutters and crashes will be greatly reduced if not eliminated.
Even PC's don't have DDR5 as system memory. this should allow the near-photo-realistic
batch of upcoming games ( GTA5 ) to be playable on a console.
Also, by adopting the x86 instruction set, development technology consolidates between
PC, XBOX and PS4. This should greatly reduce porting requirements and perhaps even
allows for simultaneous dev., reducing dev. time and cost.
Game Dev. studios must be really happy with this, allowing them to target 3 platforms at once.
The integration of the PS4 with the VITA actually looked really nice, run the game on the PS4
and play it on the VITA. So you can play in any room, even the backyard without having to move
the console. Need to go to the bathroom? now you can continue playing without missing a beat
the social gaming aspect shouldn't be underestimated either. Kids like to play along
with their friends.

This is crucial to the bottom line and is a MAJOR WINDFALL. Not only will large amounts of cash be saved, but large amounts of more cash will be made when all future games will be released to PC at the same time as the the consoles. Just think about how much more money would have been made with the GTA series alone if it would have been possible for it's releases to have had simultaneous pc debuts.
That's a good thing to point out. It seems like the new consoles are really trying to help software makers. The getting rid of playing used games and this should help VG makers I would think. But, with this help.....does it lessen the probability of consolidation for VG makers?
sounds very powerful but games make the system not specs (Neo Geo anyone?). Which games will TTWO be making for next-gen (I can think of a few, but right now who knows). TTWO big game this year is GTA 5 which may or may not be on next-gen. Even if they release it on PS4 it will essentially be the same game with maybe cleaner graphics and faster frame rate. Not sure this is enough to cause someone to spend $400 on a new system when they can play GTA 5 on the current gen and essentially get the same experience.
I am curious as to how long it will take for the sharing and social aspect of this to be ruined by those who typically ruin the xbox live and other experiences for so many these days. I am sure there will be some protections and privacy in place, but that only makes for a more challenging hackers goal.
