Closest I ever came to owning a small vehicle was a VW not long after my wife and I settled here in the West. We had about $1,600 to spend that we had managed to save to buy something new.
Choices were: New VW for me OR new electronic organ for my wife. We bought the organ; my wife took lessons for a couple of months. Got tired of the effort and didn't want to learn the tricks; organ sat idle for years, played ocassionally by my brother who is a keyboard musician and a passing guest or two. We still have the organ; it is now a piece of furniture. Never got a new VW or other new auto for me; kept my '72 Chevy Nova rather than trade it --- now my hobby car.
Still learning the lesson, though. "Happy Wife = Happy Life!" Forego your toys and keep her smiling.... All IMHO.
