WASHINGTON (AP) -- Unable to round up enough support, House Republicans abruptly put off a vote Thursday night on legislation allowing tax rates to rise for households earning $1 million and up, complicating attempts to avoid a year-end fiscal cliff that threatens to send the economy into recession.
In a brief statement, House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) said the bill "did not have sufficient support from our members to pass."
He said that now it is up to the president to work with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid "on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff.'"

    • Here lies the problem. The MESSAGE. Boehner and the "establishment" Republicans just don't get it, they need a true message and go on the offensive. The 2010 TEA Party, Gingrich congress, and the Reagan revolution had the key message and voiced it continously. That message is

The problem is not taxing people enough, it is DC spending too much.

It is that simple. Every dollar DC takes away from a person reduces that person's personal choice of self destiny.

Oh Nutmeg, youse have a selective memory and a few loose screws.

Youse may think youse be a caveman living in Upper Souf Carolinya with complete self-determination. But open thine eyes and behold what the collective society and polity have provided for youse: roads, electricity, television, water, sewerage. Youse and lots of others pay taxes for police and fire protection and emergency medical services, too. That "personal choice of self destiny" sounds absolutely Rousseauvistic! The noble savage and all of that claptrap.

Your local school board, your local garbage district, your water cooperative, your town council, your county supervisors, your state legislators, and Congress, amongst others, all have their hands in your wallet reducing your disposable income in order to provide the accountrments of civilization. Public health services, airports, and national defense cost money. Now youse may choose to become a hermit and retreat to some deserted island where youse can be that self-determiner of your own destiny; but as long as you live in a civilized polity, youse will be paying taxes to pay for public policies that people in Washington and Columbia and elsewhere promulgate.

Tee potty nonsense is what youse be posting. All IMHO.

      • there's been all this talk about for every $ of tax increase there would be 2 $'s in spending.

        let's compromise.

let's forget the tax increase and simply net it all out and simply go for 1$ in reduced spending.

Oh, oh. We are about to go over the fiscal cliff.

Once again, #$%$ couldn't command the majority caucus in the House of Reps. Happened earlier, if youse remember. He and Hussein seemed to have made a Grand Bargain, but when #$%$ took the deal to his members, they wouldn't buy it. Remind me what they call an alleged political leader who can't muster the voters to pass legislation.

This just might spell the end of Pauli. Please recall that the sequester package was Paul Ryan's handicraft; he never imagined that before the sword would fall that Congress (and the WH) couldn't come up with an acceptable plan. Of course, he was counting on the Mittens-Pauli team to win the executive branch, that the Government of the Plutocracy party would recapture the Senate while holding on to their majority in the HofR. But that is not what the electorate expectorated.

Now, Pauli and his tee potty gang are pledged to Grover Norquist, #$%$ can't find enough votes to protect his elite constitutency from higher taxes (the Bush tax cuts simply expire at the end of this calendar year), the sequester will cut defense spending, and the GOP House leadership doesn't really lead. #$%$ likes being Speaker and doesn't want to lose that prime position. Meantime, Hussein has finessed the opposition by using their sequester to beat them at the polls and now to beat their brains out as we go over the fiscal cliff. The Party of NO is in perpetual opposition with no compromises, no higher taxes at a reasonable classification; the Bush tax cuts are expiring, sequester about to kick in.....and seemingly nowhere to go.

Pauli, Pauli, Pauli---- sometimes youse gets what youse wishes and designs. All IMHO.
