Hi Folks! Arrived in Hawaii on Friday for a two week vacation. First trip to the islands since my last visit almost 20 years ago. Weather is perfect, temperature in low 80's with refreshing scattered showers. Big news which has consumated the Isles is Obama's arrival for vacation and Sen. Inouye's funeral services at Punchbowl National Cemetary today which Obama attended. Played golf at the Mamala Bay Course on Hickam Air Force Base yesterday and saw Air Force One, on which Obama arrived, parked on the runway. Will be playing golf at the Kaneohe Marine Klipper Course on Wednesday (12/26). The Klipper Course is where Obama played golf yesterday on his vacation. It is considered to be one of the finest Military golf courses in the nation.
p.s. Watched Steeler's game on TV today. Bummer!!! Roethlisberger clearly preoccupied with newborn baby son and not focused on football.
Buy a couple of fresh sweet pineapple slices (vendors used to hawk them on the streets) and lift one as a toast to the glory of the kama-aina. Eat fresh papaya every morning with cold Hawaiian fresh-squeezed lime juice on it.
Spent five years there as a beach-bum, surfer, hula show empressario, trader, and whatever else I needed to do to stay alive. When Statehood came, I returned from Hawai'i. Been back about 20 times; my wife does Hawaiian quilting. She has been invited to exhibit there, but the costs of shipping and insuring her artwork are rather prohibitive, so we'll return just to enjoy a few days or weeks in the warm sun, soft tropical breezes, all in the company of nice people.
