Does anybody else think that the IB Tradestation platform is stuck in the 90s and not competitive with other platforms from other brokers. Pricing with IB is good but from several IP's I often get short disconnects during the first and last hour of trading. They usually last around 15-30 seconds and sometimes they are three of them wihtin a 5 mim period. I know it is not my connection as my VOIP and live streaming of other sites is still working. I have a fast cable speed so internet upload and download is not the issue. I just wish that IB would be more reliable. A 2010 platform instead of the Windows 95 verion would also be nice.
A lot of these minor inconveniences are easy to ignore if you compare prices, especially margin rates, to other brokers. I would not switch brokers right now, period. I don't have much experience with other brokers' trading platforms, but I find this very usable and I am on portfolio margin so that's the overriding advantage here.
First off it's not "tradestation platform" it's TraderWorkStation (TWS). Not knowing that or not using the usual IB client's lingo makes me think you are not an IB client at all. But even if you are - it's your bad connection at fault. I have verizon T1 line, no disconnections ever. p.s. if any of the bashers can find at least one broker in America (except IB of course)who doesn't charge options assignment fees (usually $20, ZERO ($0) at IB) then i will pay attention.
