I don't know why, but I did find the following quote in QCOM's latest 10Q.
"QSI segment — comprised of the Company's Qualcomm Ventures and Structured Finance & Strategic Investments divisions. QSI makes strategic investments that the Company believes will open new opportunities for its technologies, support the design and introduction of new products or services for voice and data communications or possess unique capabilities or technology. Many of these strategic investments are in early-stage companies."
It looks like they do make "strategic investments in early-state companies."
Good find. I went to the Qualcomm website. They seem to be involved in MEMS too, but in a different way. Perhaps QCOM isn't as scared of STM as the shorts are? QCOM should be able to evaluate the technology and the patents as well.
