All Intel shareholders should stand up for their rights.
Intel has several options here:
1) Appeal this fine and fight for their rights in court.
2) Permanently close all Intel factories in Europe and watch the EU really cry when their unemployment rate skyrockets.
3) Sue AMD for violation of their cross-licensing agreement when they started a new foundry which is shared with other companies. AMD will be shut down permanently and cannot manufacture any products that contain Intel intellectual property.
Intel should appeal and definitely move to enforce the cross-license agreement. Even while Intel is battling to keep all the cross-license AP it should consider letting the current agreement expire without renewal in 2011 and developing a new architecture for the CPU with Intel-only IP.
