"3-D transistors have been touted by scientists for years, but the difference here is that Intel will use them in volume. Intel executives said that the company will begin revamping its plants in Arizona, Oregon and Israel to produce these 3-D chips."
I worked for the General Contractor who builds all of Intel's fab factories. Each and every factory is designed and built with an "upgrade path". It's like building a house and furnishing it. When you need to replace the couch or coffee table, you don't go out and buy a new house, you just get rid of the old furniture and get something newer and better. It's easy to move things around inside and Intel is kind of like an "interior decorator". These fab factories are built to operate 24X7 and WILL be able to ramp up and meet the ever increasing demand.
