Demand for Xeon E5-2600 Romley processors - higher than expected

Intel Xeon E5-2600 server processors in short supply, say sources
Monica Chen, Taipei; Steve Shen, DIGITIMES [Monday 19 March 2012]

Demand for Intel Xeon E5-2600 series server processors has been higher than expected, resulting in a short supply, according to sources at server makers in Taiwan.

The server processors have been adopted by a number of vendors and makers including Acer, Asustek Computer, Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Quanta Computer, the sources noted.

The supply of the Xeon E5-2600 server CPUs is currently falling short of demand by about 20%, pushing server makers such as Quanta to scramble for production capacity from Intel, the sources added.

However, Intel denied the reports saying the supply of the server CPUs has been normal, and that it has not heard anything about short supply.
