APPL drops Samsung for INTC chips?

Barrons is speculating that APPL will move away from Samsung chips in favor of either Taiwan Semi or INTC. Would be a huge win for INTC. Any chance of this?

    • Other rumors have it that Apple is building their own chips and will be dropping Intel in its laptop and desktop computers, so that would be not good for Intel. Most recent news I read said that Apple had already acquired 2 well respected CPU engineers... Time will tell I guess...

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

      • Heasrd that too. Problem is 2 engineers aren't going to design a new chip overnight. Even with the help of all AAPL's engineers. If and when they design a new chip, it will take over a year to produce if they fast track it. Next problem is they need a factory to produce it. TSM can't even supply enough 28nm for all their customers, how would they be able to supply 20nm. Last, INTC has started working on upgrading an old fab in Oregon, wonder what thats all about?

    • Could happen. AAPL needs something to differentate them from everyone else to maintain their luster. A new and faster processer would give them the edge they need and allow them to maintain their premium pricing. AAPL is launching the i-pad mini on 10-23 just before MSFT launch on 10-26. They may just announce the change then to steal the thunder from MSFT. Just a thought.
