    Can ARM cpus match Intel's Performance/watt ??

    I don't think you understand what performance/watt is. Do a google for it (wikipedia have a good description).

    As for ARM's performance/watt numbers they (in general) are MUCH better than x86, that's the whole point of this 'server push' by the ARM vendors.

    If you are talking about just performance, then you are right, Intel are in a different league.

    • I think it's you who doesn't understand fractions. INTC power performance is now comparable to ARMH in similar applications. Their performance/speed of logic functions, eg flops (floating point per second operations or machine executions) is infinitely better.
      That's why we are seeing so many attacks on INTC. The watershed has been reached. No one can now touch INTC in this space, ever again. Believe me, those who know anything are losing sleep at AAPL (not clear mgmt does).

        Perhaps an example would help?

        lowpowerserversDOTcom/?p=141

        So that’s a throughput difference of ~14x between the dual E5-2620 (24t) and the 4core Viridis SoC.

        Looking at power, an estimate of the energy required to do 6 repetitions:

        Viridis = 7W * 12:18m * 6runs =~ 31kJ
        x86 = 200W * 5:18m * 6/6 (all runs simultaneous ) =~ 64kJ

        The ARM system is about twice as power efficient as the x86. It might be low power, but it takes a long time getting to the end.

    • INTC perfected 3d gates, imo if they can continue to deliver on process node shrinks and other on chip innovations they will dominate the mobile space in 3 years.
