Intel Corp. and Hewlett-Packard #$%$ Thursday revealed a new chip named Itanium 9500, which offers twice the power of its predecessor while using less power.
The chip requires 8 percent less power while in use and 80 percent when idle, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The Itanium chip line was developed by Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) and HP (NYSE: HPQ) more than 10 years ago and competes with products from IBM Corp. (NYSE: IBM) and Oracle Corp.
HP on Thursday also announced a new line of servers that use the new processors.
Intel designs its chips in Austin and HP operates two data centers here.
