    New CEO Rumors

Have to agree on Pat G. He knows Intel's business intimately and is well respected. He knows Intel's culture, knows the semi industry. Pat moved on to greener pastures when Intel's management elevated Sean Maloney ahead of Pat in the CEO succession planning several years ago. However it took another three years for the board to realize that Maloney's decade long spending spree in the mobile industry accomplished nearly nothing for Intel while wasting billions of dollars and letting ARM get further ahead in the mobile. Fortunately Maloney is no longer a candidate.

Gelsinger's strengths are that he understands Intel's business, culture, market segments and operations that he could take over with little effort. As he is presently an outsider he has the ability to look at Intel's businesses with a fresh perspective and change what needs changing. His weakness as the ideal candidate is the lack of deep mobile industry experience but it would be far easier to augment a Gelsinger-led team with mobile expertise than it would be bring in an outsider with mobile experience but no understanding of Intel and the chip culture and expect them to effectively steer the company's future.

Good luck persuading Gelsinger to return.
