    ipad 4 V Clovertrail

For those who think that Clovertrail might appear in a future apple tablet...

    [multi-threaded benchmarks, higher is better]

    iPad (4th generation)
    Apple A6X @ 1.40 GHz 1 processor, 2 cores

    Geekbench: 1788
    Integer Processor integer performance 1360
Floating Point Processor floating point performance 2260
    Memory Memory performance 2066
    Stream Memory bandwidth performance 1082

    SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 500T
    Intel Atom Z2760 @ 1.80 GHz 1 processor, 2 cores, 4 threads

    Geekbench: 1386
    Integer Processor integer performance 1566
Floating Point Processor floating point performance 1374
    Memory Memory performance 1172
    Stream Memory bandwidth performance 1232

    • Have no faith in any one benchtest.

      • What is interesting is that Atom has a higher Stream Memory bandwidth performance but a lower Memory Memory performance. I had to look.

All the memory benchmarks are the same except two std libc routines.
        stdlib Write (memset) : iPad 3260, Atom Z2760 654
stdlib Copy (memcpy): iPad 2670, Atom Z2760 1017

This looks like Apple has written custom versions of memset and memcpy like Intel has done with the Intel compiler. If so, the comparison is with a hand tuned ARM libc routine and a dynamically linked Win8 version.

This does not compare silicon performance. It compares the performance MSFT libc routine.

32-bit memory bandwidth on both is similar.
geekbench problem. Insufficient disclosure when comparing two different results.

    • I suspect that Apple is concerned with screen refresh rates and power usage.

Clover Trail at 3 watts doesn't make it for the iOS. Bay Trail at 1.5 watts just might. And consider the supply of Intel.

But Apple also has laptops for the Mac operating system. So look for Mac tablets. Then does Apple have two Mac operating systems or just one ? In other words, does Apple have an iOS operating system for ARM tablets, a Mac operating system for non-touch Macs, and another Mac operating system for Mac tablets ?

Or does the iPad become a iPad-MacPad with Bay Trail ? The iPad could only consider Bay Trail but a MacPad could use Haswell or Bay Trail. In other words, a iPad-MacPad would continue with extra long battery life while a MacPad could give up some battery life for performance.
