Apple can't ignore Intel's process lead

If you are Cook and you have to make a decision on which foundry to use, I don't think you can ignore Intel.

TSMC and GF are still running planar processes and roadmap to FinFet (tri-gate-like) is still unclear. Then you look at Intel and they already more than a year into tri-gate and ramping up 14nm tri-gate for full production in 2013! This is quite difficult to ignore!

    • These AAPL and affiliated companies seem to me to be driven much more by ego than by common sense. I don't think the ultimate decisions will be rational. If AAPL chooses other than INTC, so what? INTC really doesn't need AAPL.

    • I agree from outside, it looks like Intel is the obvious choice ...especially considering that Intel is already talking about 10nm and 5nm for 2015....and certainly there is risk going with TSMC and GF..what if there is a delay for them switching to FinFET? or the yields aren't as expected...certainly lots of risk there!
