    Quanta, Intel unveil low-power computer server

    Taipei, Dec. 12 (CNA) Quanta Computer Inc., the world's top contract notebook maker, on Wednesday unveiled a computer server using Intel Corp.'s latest low-power chips.

    James Jau, vice president of Quanta's cloud computing business unit, said the new S900-X31A microserver is expected to drive growth of his company's server shipments.

    "It is a new product line and is expected to spur new applications," he said at a news conference to launch Intel's Atom S1200 processor family and its customers' server products.

    Quanta shipped over 1 million units of computer servers last year, Jau said but declined to disclose the company's server shipment targets for 2012 and 2013.

    Intel said its 6-watt Atom S1200 processors can help companies achieve high reliability and cost effectiveness for data storage.

    More than 20 low-power designs such as microservers, storage and networking systems have adopted the Intel Atom S1200 processor family, Intel said.
