It looks like Chinese handset maker Lenovo plans to launch a superphone next week at CES 2013, the K5.
According to GizChina, Lenovo K5 will be powered by an Intel Merrifield dual-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz – 2.0 GHz, which will be complemented by 2GB of RAM.
The smartphone will be only 6.7mm thick and will ship with Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

It will offer dual-SIM support and an impressive 13-megapixel rear photo snapper. Lenovo K5 will also sport a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and a high-capacity 3500 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Last but not least, the K5 will boast a 5.5-inch full HD capacitive touchscreen display (404ppi) and will be available for purchase for 3400 yuan, which is about $545 or €415.

    • If Merrifield was truly a game-changer, don't think Intel would have launched it with Lenovo. They would have waited for a Razr-like flagship from the much more visible Motorola/Google. Merrifield seems to be more of the same. Incrementally better and near the top of the pack for now. Intel doesn't seem to understand what it takes to build a mobile chip that phone makers really want. For example, they still clock their chips at 1.6GHz -2GHz and then expect the phone maker to put in a huge battery. If better sense prevailed, they would target a lower power operating point which a lower peak GHz rating. They seem to be stuck in the PC world where "performance" is everything by their own definition. The problem is, they're not the ones defining things in this market.

    • only 2 guys make money in phones is Apple and Sammy, everyone else get peanuts, ask HTC and Motorola. It is a brutal leapfrog market. Wonder if Intel has a slush fund to move these phones ? Looks like it needs a big battery. Watches gonna replace phones in a month anyway says walleye.

    • I wonder why they need a 3500 mAH battery. By comparison, the iPhone5 has a 1440 mAH battery. Not that is matters to the customer. After all they are getting an AnTuTu socre of 3 times what the iPhone gives so they don't care about a slightly heavier phone.

    • yeah, everything my ARMH phone already does !! And mine costs way less !! Margarine squeazzing coming to Intel. Who is the carrier, tincan and string communications ? Way better stuff coming in April from Samwellhung. Stay stupid !! Stay backward!! stay Intel!!

      • There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people that hate both Apple and Samsung and Intel will start by getting those people and then eventually the phones will be so good and friends of friends of friends will hear about it/see it/play with it and it will snowball. Your hatred for Intel is hilarious because Intel is going nowhere and you can't stop it.

    • Holy cow. This is huge! Lenovo plus Merrifield. Amazing how fast Intel is moving! Seems like just yesterday Medfield came out and we are already moving on to bigger and better!
