    Intel's predisposition towards pompousness

Intel invented the microprocessor, then over 35 years created the PC industry. It's natural for them to be a little pompous. If you look at how they view the smartphone and tablet market where they are now competing with ARM licensees like Qualcomm and NVidia, you can see traces of this pompousness. They are disconnected from reality by choice. The whole low power IA project which seeks to push down IA to the low power envelope of smartphones is like a megalomaniac's trip. Too bad Otellini is leaving them so soon.

      IGNORE.

They are creating new realities, that's what visionaries do and Otellini will be remembered as a visionary who chose not to go down the me-too path followed by all the other lemmings heading into the dead end that the ARM architecture will prove to be in the end when it will be shown to lack both performance and performance/power in the final reckoning.

No it has produced the best all round 2W mobile chip there is with basically the first micro-architectural implementation. It has proven beyond any doubt that x86 is not an inherently power wasteful architecture and that kind of positive branding is worth every dollar spent on Atom. It's providing real choice to customers and carriers as Intel invariably does when it enters a new market. It has advanced the mobile art as will future models when they come out. Once again Intel did the right thing both for itself and the world.

        [Well said!!!]

      • Intel is like a heavy steam engine train. When they get locked into a strategic direction (i.e., on the right track), like a heavy train, it takes awhile to deal with inertia and get itself up to speed, .... but when it has resolved to pursue that direction,.... well once that train gets up to speed you will either be on it, behind it, or under it. It would be foolhardy for the current mobile market leaders to see things any differently.

Having worked there for over 22 years as an architect I have seen this play out numerous times.

[Nothing could be greater than the pompousness you demonstrate in posting. None of your postings ever indicate that you did even a modicum of research before you post. And you show both an alarming tendency to make things up instead of looking things up and a tendency to make leaps of logic based on nothing. You're just another shill throwing something up to earn your ten cents a post bit rate. At that, you are over-paid...]
