Asustek Computer may unveil the Fonepad, a 7-inch Android 4.1 tablet equipped with voice communication functions at the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC) to take place in Barcelona, Spain, during February 25-28. Specifications of the device will include an Intel Atom Z242 processor, 1280 by 800 IPS touch screen, 16GB RAM and 1GB ROM, 3-megapixel rear camera, and support for 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, according to players in the upstream supply chain.
The 7-inch device is expected to be priced around NT$8,000-9,000 (US$271-305), helping Asustek to compete against its competitors along with the same-size Nexus 7 and MeMO Pad, the sources noted.
With its 7-inch Android and Windows tablets, Asustek is expected to ship at least 12 million tablets in 2013.
