Roku will be adding Miracast to it's device

Looks like Roku is preparing for competition from Intel's upcoming set-top box, which will have a WiDi receiver. BTW, WiDi also supports Miracast.

I really hope that Intel will market its upcoming set-top box as a stand-alone box and not just for use with it's Web TV service. This way, they will be generating revenue from 2 markets - Web TV service and the Streaming/DVR player market. Roku and Tivo generate roughly $500 million/ year in revenue. If Intel can capture some of that market, it will be like icing on the cake. BTW, there's been some negative views on the camera on this set-top (which has a shutter to disable it), but on the positive side, it allows for video-conferencing. Intel can also market this set-top to businesses that might want a way to video-conference or use it as a projector with it's WiDi feature.

You know, the more I think about Intel's Web TV project, the more I like it. Intel's Web TV is like how Netflix began streaming movies over the Web. But Intel is taking it to the next level by streaming live TV. This has a lot of potential. Just like Netflix can market itself to have it's service added to devices like Roku, MS Xbox, and Apple TV, Intel can do the same with it's Web TV service. By having control over this service, Intel is in a much better position to bargain for having its chip inside these devices. Also, Intel can work with Smart TV manufacturers like Samsung to allow it's Web TV services added on the condition that the Smart TV have Intel inside.
