Intel is now officially in bed with media companies
The media companies have chosen to work with Intel to push Live TV to the internet. This is quite remarkable considering that Google and Apple and Microsoft must have all tried to do the same. Intel is in a very special position here since it is unlikely that the media companies will work with any other company in this endeavor....at least not until they see benefits for doing so. Intel will benefit from being first to market and shaping this service to their advantage.
I think this more than anything is driving the current run up in pps. This may turn out to surprise everyone and become a major catalyst for INTC. And, putting TV on the internet is going to drive server sales in a very very big way. I have a dream --- INTC at $400 in a decade.
This service could start to reshape the whole cable industry. With Live TV now available thru the internet, this could spur new and existing high-speed internet providers (RCN or Clearwire) companies to expand their networks. Those companies now can work with Intel to offer not just internet service but Live TV service as well to compete directly with current cable companies! As a disgruntled cable customer, I sure hope this happens!
