10:25 EDT - A power-saving element of Intel's (INTC:$21.485,0$-0.35,00-1.60%) new Haswell chip line isn't living up to expectations, according to JMP Securities, which cites industry sources as it downgrades stock to market perform. Cutting power consumption in notebooks and tablets is crucial in INTC's battle with rival ARM Holdings (ARMH:$42.07,00$-0.30,00-0.71%) . JMP says sources' talk of INTC dropping such technology from future chip lines "calls into question Intel (INTC:$21.485,0$-0.35,00-1.60%) and its partners' ability to field a next generation" of computers "to staunch the tide of ARM-based tablets." An INTC spokesman wasn't immediately available for comment. Shares slip 1.6% to $ 21.49.
