    with cheaper deals.

    • Samsung announced a "qualified" 28nm LP process in June of 2011 and has yet to ship silicon. Samsung's new Galaxy phones have TSMC 28nm silicon in them. It will be interesting to see what the new iPhones have in them. My iPhone5 has Samsung 32nm.

      How does Samsung steal foundry customers when they can't ship silicon?

    • Yes I have heard this too. Unfortunately cutting prices will not work unless you can deliver and thus far Samsung has not delivered as a foundry. My iPhone5 has 32nm silicon, it was supposed to be 28nm but Samsung does not yield at 28nm. Two articles you should read:

      • More than 50% of TSMC's revenues are from 40nm and less. These customers are ripe for the picking to move to Samsung where cheaper matters a lot more than 28nm. Samsung will have a lot of capacity once Apple dumps them, they are busy trying to fill that capacity.

      • And from TSMC's call;

        All right, then, if you could just remind me, what -- when is 20-nanometer revenues going to start being 1%, or 2%, or 3% of revenue? I think -- I forgot if you guys could comment on it?

        I know. When do you expect?

        Elizabeth Sun - Director of Corporate Communication Division
        When? First half next year.

        Lora Ho - Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance
        You're asking about 20?

        Morris Chang - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
        Well, she answered already, she said first half of next year. You actually set a pretty low hurdle. You said 2% or 3%, right?

        What quarter will be the first few percentage of revenues will come from 20-nanometer for TSMC?

        Morris Chang - Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
        What quarter will be the first 2% quarter?

        Lora Ho - Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Finance
        Well, based on our current estimation, it will be roughly second quarter 2014
