As for my comments about the A15 V Silvermont, even Intel say that Silvermont should have roughly the same single threaded performance as ARM’s Cortex A15 (anandtech article) the difference being that Silvermont will be able clock higher and use less power doing so.
Can I still defend that comment? No, not really, I was wrong and I'd lose my bet. The various gossip on the tech forums had Silvermont around the 25% IPC improvement mark, which would put it behind the A15 (the jump in IPC from the A9 to A15 was around 40%).
Silvermont is a good design but it *had* to be to stay in the game.
The upshot of this thread is that Intel tends to hype its performance and in fact they don't really have as much performance as they claim which is part of the reason why they fail in the market afterwards. This is their time in the sun when they get to toot their own whistle.
