Microsoft Rumored to Be Launching Midrange 7.5-Inch Tablet to Challenge iPad Mini, Galaxy Note 8.0
"Richard Shim, an NPD DisplaySearch analyst who also forecasted a late 2013 release for the next iPad mini and a 10.1-inch Amazon Kindle tablet, believes that Microsoft will indeed be diversifying to the midrange class with this rumored 7.5-inch tablet. Shim noted that based on his supply chain checks, preparation for this device appears to be ramping up, from the display panel’s specifications, touch module and mass production schedule.
He did not mention any possible specifications aside from the screen size, but chances are Intel will be the company behind the 7.5-inch Surface’s processor. Recently, Intel had hinted at its new Atom processors powering a new generation of budget-priced tablets, so we could be seeing Microsoft opt for an Intel Atom processor and Windows 8 out of the box."
Makes perfect sense for Microsoft to launch a Wintel tablet like this. The most remarkable thing is that a Bay Trail tablet will have performance equivalent to a 2010 era Penryn Core 2 class CPU in a 7.5" form factor running a professional 64 bit OS. How cool is that!
