The real news from Intel: Renee James takes over No. 2 spot
"As part of the software group, James has been involved in the development of Tizen, a Linux-based alternative mobile OS to Android. Intel is one of the few companies with the resources to compete with Google in a mobile OS. Intel has chips, OS engineers and a compiler business of its own, and it has Samsung's power and momentum. They better make this work."
Tizen is an interesting story, however I'm not sure how INTC profits from it much. It is supposedly shared with Samsung and others. It could hurt Google because it may be more marketable in Asia. But it will run on ARM processors as well. Phone makers may choose to use it but then implement it on an ARM platform... Do you all know if Intel would receive royalties/license fees?
I don't see that Intel would get any revenues out of it except on its own Tizen products. But it's a chance for Intel and Samsung people to hang out together and work together. Who knows what might come of it?
What Intel really needs to do is figure a way to develop its own version of Unix. One that is optimized for X86. One that gains acceptance in the corporate world and would scare Microsoft back into the reality of not forcing new product introductions like Windows 8 down everybody's throats. They screw up and we had to suffer?
