Windows 8 is what is killing PC's

This is Intel's biggest problem. Win 8 completely and utterly sucks. Ballmer should be fired yesterday.

    • Windows 7 is not designed for tablets. You need the tiles.

    • Completely agree. If Windows 7 supported touch Ultra-books would have taken off and ramped beyond anyone's expectations. Having to wait for Windows 8 stalled the market, and when it arrived turned people off because it is so terrible. (lest we forget,... At Microsoft Quality is Job 1.1)

Ballmer is the last man standing from the folks who started Microsoft, and he was a Gates, and Allen hanger on with nothing of genuine value to offer. And he has done nothing if not for having nurtured a culture of over the top corporate arrogance that makes you want to root with all your heart for their utter demise.

The sooner the computing industry rids itself of the last vestiges of Microsoft's bloatware the better off all will all be.

    • This is absolutely true. Windows 8 was designed for tablets and is abysmal for traditional desktops and laptops. How Microsoft believed forcing W8 & Metro on traditional desktops and laptops was a good idea is beyond belief. And many people don't like the security vulnerabilities Microsoft creates by pushing ads to Metro tiles as well as Microsoft's insistence in pushing its SkyDrive cloud on users.

I know businesses that had planned to buy new PC's since the beginning of the year but refused to bring Windows 8 into their shops. Instead they are postponing their purchases, installing Linux wherever they can and some are buying MACs.

Windows 8.1 preview seems to suggest a some improvement but so far it doesn't go far enough to correct everything wrong with W8 and the traditional PC market.

Microsoft's is singlehandedly responsible for destroying much of the demand for traditional PCs.

    • Arrogance has killed many a company. It could happen to Microsoft...or to Intel. You've got to listen to your customers and give them what they want. This is true even for Apple who thinks the customer will buy whatever they're selling. Maybe was true once, not any more. Customers want cheap chips; the chips don't have to be the 'best'. Not everyone drives a Mercedes to work, a Chevy gets the job done just as well for much less money. If the chips are the best and they're price competitive, so much the better. I think Intel finally gets the picture. I just hope it's not too late.

    • Yes from talking to friends and others, some who are responsible for upgrading their company's systems.
What I'm hearing is they are waiting for at least a fix of windows 8 to purchase.
Most say if you have a touch screen it isn't so bad. Microsoft should of not forced 8 on non touch PC's.
I saw a article that said Microsoft's earnings were hurt by the decline in PC sales, but they are the ones who contributed to that decline.
