Tesla Short Interest hits all time high in two weeks ending 3/15/13

Tesla’s short interest position reached an all-time high of 32,316,654 shares at the end of the two-week period ended March 15, 2013, when it increased by 361,912 shares, or 1.13%. The short position increased by 5,908,445 shares in February and in the first two weeks of March of 2013. The prior all time high was at the end of October 2012, when the short position was 31,121,093 shares, after which net short covering last November, December, and January reduced the net short position by 4,712,884 shares, before the trend reversed in February and March as stated above.
This has triggered a substantial increase in the premiums being paid to those who lend their Tesla shares to brokers. Some brokers are now paying premiums up to 30% per annum again just to borrow shares, whereas two weeks ago they were paying only 10%. The large premiums will be hard to verify unless you know where to go and who you are? In asking around, most brokers have no stock to lend out for shorting.
I suggest Tesla longs try to check this out for themselves to see if they can verify the above as factual. The last time these conditions prevailed was last November and December when investors were busy reducing their short positions.
Just another important factor to consider when trying to figure out how to invest or trade in Tesla stock. You don't have to be a masochist to do this,
    but it sure would help.

    • 3 weeks ago, I was offered nearly 20% by a broker. Got 2 calls. Sooner after that the stock tanked. I imagine the shorts accumulate a big pike and then dump followed by "rumors, news" releases. They can do this till the earnings release. Except for Elon decided to mess things up with his tweeting.

The factory seems to be running at optimum capacity of 400-500 cars/week. The big question is if the made the production efficient, got rid of the rework, overtime, fixed supply chain, etc. That is the only way they will be profitable.
