(( The strategy of Tesla is to enter at the high end of the market, where customers are prepared to pay a premium, and then drive down market as fast as possible to higher unit volume and lower prices with each successive model. ))
The lower end is already saturated (LEAF, FOCUS, SPARK) and Tesla is going broke selling a $140,000 car for $100,000.
kb, utter nonsense. Tesla makes 25% gross margin on the $100,000, 85kwh Model S. The other two variants, with smaller battery packs are also solidly profitable. The new model coming out in 18 months or so will cost $30,000 (similar to a Leaf's price) but will have 200 mile range and be VERY quick. The Leaf, by comparison, is a glorified golf cart. My advise to you, my friend, and all shorts, is to buy some call options first thing Monday morning as an insurance policy. Happy Easter.
