Sounds like next gen Teslas will be way better. Cancelled my order. I recommend that anyone interested in buying a Tesla, wait a few years. Just hired one of the main guys from Fiat and Musk just announced that they will make self driving cars rendering their current product obsolete.
Tesla cannot possibly fund a self-driving car project at present and it's not here quite yet anyway. It is possible that Google's self driving car project has been ported to a Model S as a prototype but that's a guess. The Model S platform with electric everything would be well suited to Google's work and a really fine demo. Google and Tesla are neighbors here in the Valley and such collaborations happen. But all that's a guess if such a project exists at all.
I think that the post above is a short who has heard of the Osborne Effect but didn't do it well. He would have done better to have invented a story about batteries.
Google [Tesla CEO in talks with Google about driverless car software] without the brackets for a short article. So there is one already.
Musk says that he thinks that a sensor-based approach. like Google's, is too expensive and wants cameras and visual processing. That would beyond the state of the art in visual processing at present, IMO, even with the help of, say, visual and infrared cameras. It will also need real compute power, but that's more affordable with each passing month. Weather and darkness make such an approach difficult.
It will happen at some point but hardly soon enough to impact today's Model S. There is a picture of what it says is a Google driverless Model S in front of a Google sign.
Model S owners - is there anything about top of the dash that suggests an intention to project an image on the inside of the windshield?
One of the main guys from Fiat? I'm assuming you mean Aston Martin. How are you rich enough to afford a Model S when you can barely read/comprehend press releases? Doubt you were even contemplating a purchase.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
TSLA would need a secondary to fund mass r&d. Not a bad price to do it. However I'm going to guess that self driving cars will only be for the super-rich for many years. TSLA will get it's real runup leading up to the release of Gen III for the masses - this current run is just a preview of thins to come.
