The battery in the model S weighs about 1,500 pounds. That's how it is with batteries. If you want one that will give an electric vehicle some range, then it will weigh a literal ton. That doesn't cut it. The stock is overvalued.
That's the basis for your shorting Tesla? Seriously??
The Model S weighs 4600lbs. Other cars in its class weigh 4200 to 4400 lbs, yet the Model S can out accelerate them all. How exactly is battery weight an issue here?
You're making the assumption the technology won't advance. Nanotechnology.... google it. Also ponder the fact that Elon Musk has a Phd in Applied Physics and Materials Science.
Nano technology was available from A123. It would greatly reduce charge time and with the chemistry used would have greatly extended battery life. Tesla rejected that technology, possibly for the greater initial energy density of the Panasonic cell. Fisker adopted it, Of course Fisker went bankrupt and what remains is now in Chinese hands. I doubt Tesla can win such a competition in the long term.
The advance of battery technology? Please. Batteries have been around for 200 years, and the first electric cars were built before the first gasoline cars, and batteries are used in many settings. In other words, the benefits of advancing the technology have been in demand for over a century.
Yet despite the huge demand for better batteries, science has not been able to deliver. Elon Musk isn't going to be the guy who performs the basic research this problem requires. It's a problem that requires the attention of a few Einsteins at the university level. They'll become richer than Bill Gates and Warren Buffett combined if they can create a battery that packs as much energy in the same space and weight as a tank of gas.
Exactly, It feels like we are just a step away from a big battery announcement.
Not via Tesla, but by some other tech company, research grant, etc. A part of me wonders if the Supercharge expansion can be "Slow Rolled" to some extent. Id love to see more SC Stations and think Tesla needs to keep moving forward, but if an EV could break 400 miles, then 500, etc. SC Stations become less and less relavent. They are still needed, but not nearly as many.
It will be interesting to see how all this unfolds.
The horse weighs about 1000 pounds. That's how it is with horses. If you want one that will have some range, then it will weigh a literal half a ton. That doesn't cut it. The horse is overvalue.
