A white 57 Ford Convertible with a nice black top....

Brother Brucie bought one back in 1959 and owned it for 40 years until his death. He was a Ford guy and every Ford guy had to have a 57.
i was driving down hwy 99 about 19 years ago and spotted an identical car going the opposite way. i quickly turned around and followed the driver to his house. He had made a beer run and had a small party going on when i walked in the front door. " Who owns the 57 Convert?? The owner spoke up and i asked him if it was for sale. "It is, but i want a lot of money for it". How much do you want?? "3200 bucks". WOW!!!! That was a giveaway price even back then. i asked him to come outside and told him to grab the title, follow me home and i'll give him the money. 15 minutes later the car was mine. What a beauty it was. Original faded white paint with zero rust and a straight body. The black interior was very nice, with a new padded dash already installed and the convertible top was in nice shape. The original 312 was replaced along the way by a nice running 69 351W and the car just ran and drove perfectly. He also threw in two extra convertible doors and a deck lid.
Unfortunately, the economy around here was always on a 7 years up and 7 years down cycle and i ended up selling it, but every time i drove that car, i thought about Brother Bruce, the nicest Brother anyone could ever have.
i still have the the 27 Pontiac 2-dr sedan that was his first restoration. i bought it for 900 bucks, chopped the top, boxed the frame, put a TCI Independent front suspension under it and a 9" narrowed rear end, painted it Blue Deltron with black fenders and every time i drive it, i'll think of Brother Brucie and ask him to say a Prayer for me. He never missed a Sunday Mass in his Life and probably followed with a few Black Label Brewskies with his buddies most Sunday afternoons....

    • i paid 5K for the Pontiac and sold off the parts i didn't need for 3500 bucks, so i ended up with a real nice body, frame and clear title for 1500 bucks. The 900 dollar figure was for a 25 Buick Roadster that i bought from Brucie. The car was sleeping in a field for over 50 years. The New Salem farmer cut off the back end off the car with a cutting torch, threw away the decklid and made a pickup out of it. 900 plus hours, fifteen patch panels, a new 16 guage floor with 1" square tubing and about 90 feet of hammer-welding and chopped windshield posts later it was ready for paint and moved over to buddy Steve's garage for final work. i'm not a Roadster guy. i like chopped sedans. All the rotted oak from that car kept the garage warm for a couple days. Steve put another 100 hours plus into it and now She's a 350 horse, dk blue metallic BEAUTY. Brucie had a few restorers look at the car before i got it, but none of them wanted to touch it...
