It's all downhill for Tesla from here! Tesla cannot compete with BMW on a mass scale. For you and me, BMW is a dream car to drive; the ultimate driving machine. A few California celebs may still buy the Model S. But to make money, you need to sell hundreds of thousands of cars. This EV market is getting crowded, and Tesla will find it increasingly difficult to ramp up sales. The stock is overpriced and I think we will see a slide from here.
Let me guess, you own BMW stock? Go bother the BMW board. There is NO competition for Tesla in the EV world yet. You are whistling past the graveyard, but the Tesla Monster is real.
The BMW is also overpriced. I don't see how someone can buy an i3 before 2014. Also, the range extender is a $5k option. It's a leaf without the range extender and a volt with. It will not be worth 10k more than a volt.
I have a 335xi and yes it is a nice car to drive, but does not compare to the Tesla Model S. the Model S is far superior, better handling, quicker acceleration, much more comfortable. I doubt that the I3 will drive better than the 335xi.
Sentiment: Strong Buy
Wow, you own a 335xi and a Tesla Model S. You must be doing quite well for yourself. Otherwise, I think you should justify where your opinions on the Model S come from if they are not first hand ownership experience.
You said you own a BMW 335xi and you like it. I am just curious - did you also drive a Tesla Model S? If not, your view of the Model S is probably based on all the media hype. Or maybe you are long Tesla stock and you would like to think that Tesla is better than BMW, only because you want to see Tesla's stock going higher. In any case, the i3 will not directly challenge the Model S as they are in different leagues. But it will surely challenge Tesla's prospects with mass production and sales.
Some longs on this board don't quite get it. Nobody denies that the Model S is a great car. The question is how many Tesla cars will be eventually sold. The competition is heating up, with the BMW launch on Monday possibly a game changer. People want affordable EV's, which the Model is not. This Tesla stock is priced for market dominance, which unfortunately cannot be achieved with the Model S. As I said in my earlier post, the Model S is a show piece. To justify the stock price, Tesla needs to sell not 5,000 cars in a quarter, but more like 100,000+++ a year. Alas, that won't happen with the competition now all over the place. And that competition has deep pockets!
