They think they are patriotic (No! put on a flag lap pin does not mean you're patriotic) but they hate the only American auto company that beat the Germans in producing a highest performance car, something even the Japanese tried hard and failed to achieve.
The Bush depression? You mean when we had better employment and deficit numbers? Obama, Pelose et al have destroyed America's industrial dominance and all the value-added jobs that came with it. Now we have an entire generation with nothing to look forward to except flipping burgers for a living. Liberals think with their hearts instead of their heads, and we are seeing the results of this stupidity.
Right. It took three Roosevelt terms as Pres, massive gov. spending (WPA, etc...) and WWII to get our heads above water after the heartless Hoover Republican depression. We're doing pretty well in half the time.
Let's face it neither side has done much to create jobs and vitalize the economy..
With regard to your claim of better deficit numbers under Bush you must take into consideration that the largest factors contributing to the deficit when Obama came into office were the unfunded wars and the Bush tax cuts. Obama put funding for the wars into the budget where it belongs and has wound down our involvement. As far as the Bush tax cuts go it is the GOP that has prevented all reasonable changes on the richest brackets.
But to get on topic, the poster is correct, the GOP has consistently supported big oil whether it be expanding drilling on public lands, restricting EPA regulations or supporting and expanding tax loopholes. Which is ironic because on the other hand they say that all green industries must make it on their own without any federal help..
One of the conservative political angles is actually "limited change". They don't like radical change in terms of things like energy policy modification. Conservative evangelicals have said "God put oil on this earth for our use and when it is used up, we will be called up to Heaven during the great reconing." Oil equals religion. However, oil was meant to be a starter energy product - we were supposed to use it to find new sources of energy to use that are "all around us". It was easy energy - now, we have to do the hard stuff.
