For better, for worse, one thing is certain.

Competition is coming, whether Tesla likes it or not. Nissan is rumored to double the number of batteries in Leafs for an additional $8000. That would easily put the range in the 200s.

    • You just don't get it. You really don't.

THE MORE companies that enter the EV market, the better. Why do you think Volkswagon or Honda or... can sell so many vehicles in face of competition EVERYWHERE?

The answer is because the market for gas powered vehicles is HUGE. And why is it HUGE? Because soooo many companies make soooo many gas cars that they've literally expanded the market for gas cars considerably.. Gas cars became the common mode of transportation.

Tesla needs other companies to take EVs seriously. That will grow the market. In time, the market for EVs will be HUGE too. BTW, BMW or Mercedes didn't go out of business even though there are so many car companies.

Think about it. It's not hard to figure out why.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • " ... To be sure, GM’s latest quarter’s net income was $1.4 billion, down from $1.85 billion the previous year. But, compared to Tesla, it’s at least positive; Tesla’s one profitable quarter was due to a government subsidy."

No one is close to production. Think about all the retooling of factories etc. Maybe again maybe in a decade there will be competition till then its all Tesla. GM killed their entire electric program with the EV1 that was their chance. Too late to catch up and they are too big to change without years of implementation.

      Sentiment: Hold

    • It is not just how far, what would you rather drive a Leaf or a Tesla

    • COMPETITION IS COMING...COMPETITION IS COMING...COMPETITION "IS COMING"...

IN "WHAT DECADE!" ....keep hearing "how competition is coming" WELL WHERE THE "F" IS IT...

THE "I-8 by BMW...still a "two seater hybrid" with 138hp elec coupled with a 3cyl gas...THAT WAS "SUPPOSED TO BE COMPETITION...and that was from one of the best in the biz...

...lots of rumors and WANNABE competitors...NOBODY PUBLISHTHE THE "BATT TECH" METHODOLOGY and "convincing ANYONE ....they can really do this...THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A "PROTOTYPE" OUT...

GET THAT ...."A PROTOTYPE"... LIKE IT'S IN THE CAR SHOWS OR SOMETHIN'...

THE REASON IS: TALK IS CHEAP... AND THEY "DON'T EVEN HAVE A F'N PROTOTYPE...

...what a bunch of hokum...NO YOU DON'T HAVE TO "GIVE US YOUR SECRET BLUEPRINTS" WITH YOUR GREAT TECH BREAKTHROUGH...

BUT "YOU CAN CONTACT" "Road and Track" or "Car and Driver" and LET THEM "TEST YOUR GREAT NEW SECRET WEAPON ......PROTOTYPE...........just pop the hood to show them "you don't have SOME MIDGETS PEDDLIN' IT...

IT'S THAT SIMPLE ...'PUT UP ...OR SHUT UP...IS the way it's said....

    • rumor has it that, if you purchase "one of these double-battery leafs" ...you get a "free skin-type costume" (cape included) ...with a BIG "ED" emblazoned on the chest...

and Nissan "guarantees it is affixed with a "genuine MADE IN CHINA LABEL!"

the BIG "ED" doesn't stand for the name ED... it stands for "ELECTRIC DORK!" (but girls will probably call you "Ed" when they unexpectedly "blow you off" - don't want to hurt the dorks feelings, etc. - for the guy who just "pulled up in a TESLA" ...(a real electric action machine)

    • As much as you would like people to believe you, I think you are wrong. For one as simple as the idea is, it is more difficult than you think. Even BMW couldn't come up with an all electric car that has the range and performance. i3 is 100 miles, max! And the i8 is a hybrid. It just goes to show that you have no idea what you're talking about. I bet you haven't even driven the car to ascertain whether or not it is going to make it. All you care about is a buck so you and the other shorts keep making up bogus information or rely on numbers that are for mature business models.

I sincerely hope that Elon Musk reads this group because his electric motor with its small size and high torque would be ideal for business that are in the package delivery business like FEDEX and UPS. They have large distribution centers that solar panels could be put on and enough space to put the battery changing mechanism there also and charge them for that service. Free electricity from the sun to cut fuel costs. Build a step van by doubling up on the battery size. I hope he comes out with a van after the Gen III car too. A van with decent price and range would be big seller too. I want the space of a van with power of the electric motor.

All vehicles are at risk because electric motors are the ideal solution for transportation. Maximum torque and the range is only going to increase as battery research improves.

BTW, it is a fantastic car. The acceleration, handling is awesome!

    • latest safety thing I saw...

you can stack Tesla's in a stack of 5.... and the "roof doesn't crush on the bottom car of the five cars...

      plus...all kinds of other stuff...

HEY "BACK IN THE DAY" FORD COULD HAVE PUT "A 429 boss" mustang engine in a CHEAPY PINTO...but only a few "testosterone loaded poor boys" WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE FOR "DOUBLE THE PRICE" OF A STANDARD PINTO...to have the "fastest pinto" around...the girls could give a #$%$ "if you got the fastest pinto"...they want to ride in a "fast vette" or pontiac bonneyville convertible... I know ...my friends had "all that" and a few had "super powered little cheapy buggers with 400plus hp...could "walk the vette even"...but the "girls still went out and down for the guy with the "vette...

so an "elec nissan" 37k leaf...YOUR BLOWIN' THE WINDBAG...

I'm sure the "volkswagon BUG" could come up with a 40k beetle...with 200mile range per chg ...but if I'm gonna pay 40k for a BEETLE... if I can afford that...then I'll spring for the Tesla... ALSO WHAT WILL BE THE 0-60 PERFORMANCE OF THE LEAF...GONNA DO IT IN 4 SECONDS???? THAT'S WHY PEOPLE "BUY" PORCHES...etc.

      a. how about safety, handling, BEAUTY...why do people BUY JAGS AND PORCHES...that's the COMP TYPE CARS FOR TESLA...TELL ME WHEN THEY HAVE A 200 PLUS RANGE...then I might listen seriously....
