Musk also said that Tesla will not pick a final site for its long-awaited "Gigafactory" until the end of the year. The goal of the plant is to mass-produce lithium-ion batteries and lower their cost.

Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk said Wednesday that his electric car company would break ground sometime next month on its $5 billion “gigafactory,” with a rival site to break ground a month or two later
Personally and economically-I think Elon would like to get the giga factory close to the manufacturing facility for cost purposes-he needs more time for Cali permit process decisions. The best news I heard is Panasonic said they could reduce the price of the battery to what Elon's price target for gen III. This is great and huge news.
I have my shock face on right now... so bizarre that any of the chosen states won't deal with a company with a corporate bond rating of junk.. shocking just shocking.. how dare a state government be fiscally responsible..
OK, so LESS THAN 4 weeks ago (May 7), The Muskrat was saying they would break ground on their Gigafactory IN JUNE....
NOW the pumper is saying it will be at the end of the year!!!! #$%$? THAT'S a 6 MONTH DELAY!
This is UNACCEPTABLE. What has changed in the past 4 weeks or was Musk lying?
From May 7 CBS:
PALO ALTO (AP) — California is back in the running for a massive battery plant that electric car maker Tesla Motors plans to start building this year, but CEO Elon Musk said the state remains in the “improbable” category for winning the plant because of the time it will take to win regulatory approval.
Musk said Wednesday that the company plans to break ground on one of two locations as early as next month for the plant that has been the subject of furious competition from four other Southwestern states. A second site will follow a month or two later.
The only explaination I can think of is that he might break ground this month at several locations and decide which one he will use at the end of the year. That is still an expensive approach, buy the land, start developing them, and then decide which one to use. Never heard of that approach before. Only 27 days left in June to find out
