I agree, but I still think the I3 is only competition for the Leaf. Of which I think the Leaf will win. I've read they are planning a big "Makeover" for the Leaf and/or offering an Infiniti EV.
Some time ago the Nissan CEO said he would wait on the Infiniti because he did not believe battery range/tech was ready, but I suspect they are rethinking or even potentially working in that direction descreetly. The article I read suggested they may do both, giving the Leaf a more sporty look and feel while also working towards the Infiniti.
The Infiniti, however, is years away. A new Leaf could pop up anytime and with Nissan already having a decent Charge Network in place they can likely move faster than most any other Auto Company except Tesla which is clearly "ALL IN" with their chips in the EV world.
