Between the sudden DDD premarket drop, the falling S&P, and the opening DDD selloff, I did not understand what the H was happening, having just listened to the earnings presentation. It looked like another short mob attack in spite of the good report and lack of shares to short. So I sold. I made good money on these sales between 36 and 37, but I spent the rest of the day kicking myself watching is go to near 39 before closing at 38. So I'll be looking to get back in with other longs soon for the "long run." My bad. Yo Duuh!
Look at it this way. At least you managed to lock in some gains. And we were lucky; as far as we know it could just as easily have continued to plunge. What was your position size in DDD? You might have sold just a portion of it at first.
One thing I've kinda figured out for myself is to try to make decision after the end of the day when I can see the candlesticks. Intraday, too much can happen.
I sort of averaged out using 4 separate trades of modest size. They would have hardly been noticed in the book. (I'd rather not disclose the share total.) Looking at this morning, maybe I was lucky. We need more good news for short poison. Here shorty shorty....... HERE Shorty....
