I hate to tell you guys this but the NY Times is only one tiny step above Cramer in honesty and reliability. They are NOT what you think they are, a pillar of truth. China can dump whatever they wish below cost but many rooftop installations will still have to use UniSolar!
bubba99932: Hey, what about FSLR? They are not Chinese and they are selling above costs. And their ASP will be about $1.30 this qtr - a bit below Chinese on efficiency-adjusted basis, and they still can't sell all their stuff. What are you going to do about FSLR?
Clearly what they say is happening, no matter where it is reported is happening. The strong are trying to drive the weak out of the market, so they gain market share and can reap the benefits later. With an ASP target of $1.50, ECD may manage to break even, or lose a bit but to survive, they have to lower costs through a technological breakthrough. I don’t think their differentiation will enable a 50+ cent premium, particular with their lower efficiency. No one has to use Unisolar.
I’m not saying this won’t happen but it’s best to at least recognize the facts on the ground.
And I’ve found that those who dis The Times don’t ever read it. They are repeating what someone else told them.
